Born in Italy at the age of 5 umberto moved to London with his family. During his schooling, he became interested and greatly influenced by the music culture of the 80s. He began collecting original vinyl from bands such as New Order, Depeche Mode and Soft Cell.
Later on, following 10 years of living in England, Umberto moved back to Italy, and it was during high school were he started to gain a personal interest into electronic music, taking influences in that period from labels such as: Underground Resistance, Novamute and Plus 8.
As he reached his late teens, he realised that electronic music was the extra thing he was looking for; enhancing his background & skills in parallel with the techno culture of the middle 90s. He soon became one of the most respected djs in the local scene, playing in the best events organised in the city by promoters of Loose Club & Orbeat Parties. The Neapolitan techno scene gives him the opportunity to meet creative people, and receive further inspiration in pushing the boundaries.
After about 5 years of working as a dj, he decided the next step for him was to become a producer. His increasing interest in music leads him to further studies and after 2 years he graduated with a degree in Audio Engineering.
During this period Umberto began building up his own studio, with analogue and digital equipment; his inceased knowledge inspired him to elaborate on his own musical ideas. He even works as a redactor for a computer music magazine "CM2".
His debut E.P. has been released on GFR Records a Swedish label. Following this work Umberto signed with the prestigious Rotation Records owned by Dave Angel. Witch took him to start dj-ing all around Europe, in this period he made several gigs in citys like Berlin, Genève, London & Amsterdam.
Recently he has now started a new project under the pseudonym of “Uto Karem” were he creates tracks that combine more minimal and electronic sounds, more info on Loose Records.com
At the end of 2005 he started a net-label “Restyle Records”, the basic idea it to put out tracks that differ from any musical style, taking the most basic components of known and unknown tracks, to re-create & "restyle" new pieces of a original work...
The next new project will be “Agile Recordings” a new label created to promote his own music style and to give young producers the opportunity to release quality music.
